Bio
Ottilie asked for a violin for her 5th birthday, out of the blue. She has never looked back. As soon as she started playing it, she began to improvise. It wasn’t long before she started to write down her compositions. She has since won a number of regional and national composition competitions with her classical compositions, as well as reaching the final of the Song Academy Young Songwriter Competition 2023. Ottilie passed her grade 8 violin with distinction when she was 11 years old and was a member of the National Children’s Orchestra for a number of years. Ottilie also has grade 8 music theory. Ottilie also studies piano, singing, jazz improvisation, guitar and clarinet. She wishes to learn many more instruments.
Ottilie wrote her first song, I Am Free, when she was 10 years old and finished the last of the songs on the album shortly after her 14th birthday. When Ottilie wrote her first punk songs, Sugar High At Midnight and Toy, she had never heard any punk. Ottilie’s music is entirely self-written and self-produced, save for the wonderful instrumentals recorded by M Ross Perkins for Toy. Ottilie recorded “I Am Free” when she was 12 and immediately made and released a music video for it. Shortly afterwards, she started having singing lessons as she had no previous singing experience! Amalia Ulman, film director, approached Ottilie after her song “Toy” went viral and offered to make a music video for her. This incredible stop motion film was released on 14/11/2024.
